A bit about Maggie's from Maggie's Highlands Community Fundraiser, Judith Ross
Every two minutes, somewhere in the UK, someone is diagnosed with cancer. What they need is a way to get through their diagnosis and adjust to a life-changing and, for some, life-threatening illness. What we can offer them is a Maggie's Centre. A Maggie's Centre is a place where anyone affected by cancer can turn to for help. People can go there if they've been recently diagnosed or have been living with cancer for decades. The centres are also open to friends or family members supporting those with cancer.
Maggie's Highlands opened its doors four years ago at Raigmore hospital, Inverness, in which time more than 12,000 people have benefited from our unique cancer programme. These people pop in to have a cup of tea and a chat with our Information & Support Specialists, for an appointment with our Psychologist or to attend one of the courses designed to help people live with, through and beyond a diagnosis of cancer. We provide support from Lochaber to Caithness, Moray to the Western Isles.
However we cannot run our service of information and support with out help from people like you, the Castle of Mey 10k runners. We rely totally on fundraising to run our centres, Maggie's Highlands cost an average of £240,000 a year to run. Thanks to the organisers of the Castle of Mey 10k you have an opportunity to help us, please consider raising some sponsorship for the race or making a donation through the race's Just Giving page, we really do appreciate your support.
If you would like any more information on Maggie's please get in touch with Judith on 01463 706302 , or, if you are in Inverness please feel free to pop into the centre.

Castle of Mey 10K Shares Event Profits with Local Youth Groups
The inaugural run of the Castle of Mey 10K in May proved a great success with its full quota of runners, thanks in large part to the support of local volunteer organizations.
To show their appreciation, the organizers recently awarded a portion of the event's excess funding to the participating groups: 1st Thurso Ranger Guides, Caithness Company ACF, and Caithness Cycling Club (youth section).
The remaining funds will be donated to North Highland Harriers, a runners club being formed to support the ongoing interest in running in Caithness, as highlighted by the record number of participants at the Castle of Mey 10K.
In addition to aiding a healthier lifestyle, North Highland Harriers also hopes to promote the beautiful Caithness terrain by hosting several running events throughout the year. The group currently has more than 100 people from Caithness registering an interest to join.
