Report 15 - Week beginning 13/04/09

Have you stuck to the training programme? If not any reasons why?

No, I've been doing the distances but not the repeats and lost my way with the programme a bit this week.

Have you done more or less than expected? Explain.

Did quite a bit, more than I'd expected at the beginning of the week.

How did you feel during training this week? What were the highs and lows?

Knee was still a bit sore but much better than last week. Managing Sunday's 6 mile run was another milestone for me - slow and steady, that seems to be the only way I can do this without aggravating my knee. Maybe have go at some of the speed repeats this week but don't want to go back to that pain in my knee.

Are you seeing improvements; in speed, distance, breathing?

Yes, I guess so in terms of distance but certainly not speed.

Where are you walking/running; gym, beach, roads, forests?

Farr beach at Bettyhill, up and down Armadale road and in Borgie Forest. Had a wee run up Fascally Road near Bettyhill but it was full of potholes, too late at night by the time I got there and I couldn't be bothered to make an effort.

Are you training alone/with someone else/mixture? How does this affect your training?

My son and daughter are taking turns in keeping me company. Had to leave the dog at home on Sunday as 6 miles in the heat in the forest in her big shaggy coat might be too much for her and she might flake out.

Any injuries?

Following advice (thank you!) has helped my knee get much better but it puts you off a bit having to fret about it.

Are you feeling any benefits away from training as a result of the training; health, toning up, more energetic?

Guess so, although its hard to see where the progress is as its slow - bit like my running, slow and steady.

Are you doing any other forms of exercise; swimming, cycling, yoga, pilates?

A few walks.

Any other observations?

I decided not to worry about how long it takes to do the 10k, and just concentrate on getting round. Who cares if it takes more than an hour? I'll be pleased just to be able to complete the distance. Someone shouted sportingly at me last week as I chugged past minding my own business: 'Is that as fast as you can run?' Nope. I could run really fast for several hundred yards then have to lie down with an oxygen mask pressed to my face or, conversely, I could trot along, cover the distance and reach the finish line. Which, I wonder, would be the most sensible option for a 10k run???? Grrrrr.
