Introduction
Graeme Dunnett, 48 years old and a Senior Project Manager with DSRL, based at Dounreay.
I'm involved in community projects through Rotary and Hogmany in Thurso and previously with the Round Table.
I am married with three children, Sarah, Emma and Oonagh. My wife Sophie is an endurance coach and I am the only family member who does not run (or so I thought).
My main sport for the past 37 years has been golf and I was proficient enough to gain a +2 handicap. In the past I have also enjoyed cycling, swimming, badminton and squash, but now I am told by the girls that it is time to get fit again!! I have not done any running since PE classes in school so why now?
There are a number of reasons. I am at a stage of life when I want a new challenge - glueing models are looking appealing at the moment however!! I am less stealth like than I used to be so I need to address this and it is not quite a case of if you can't beat them join them, but it would be good to join in with all the girls instead of supporting their running.
I have just started cycling again as a way of getting back to some form of fitness.
A 10K - why not? It is an inaugural event and this will be an inaugural challenge for me. With a date set then it means there is no more procrastinating. I am also keen to support local events so what better than this.
My personal goal has got to be to complete the 10k without the assistance of the emergency services and cross the line with my oldest daughter Sarah who is hoping to be my running companion.
