Report 15 - Week beginning 13/04/09
Have you stuck to the training programme? If not any reasons why?
No. Due to concerns over my right knee and after seeking advice, I prioritised two quality sessions this week. I am reliably informed that it is more important at this stage to get to the event without an exacerbation to my injury rather than worry about clocking up the suggested mileage.
Have you done more or less than expected? Explain.
I did less than what was programmed but what I did do felt achievable and I do not feel I have lost any fitness or speed as a result of erring on the side of caution.
How did you feel during training this week? What were the highs and lows?
Training went well, one easy run of three miles and then followed my co 'featured runner' Anna's good example last week and took a saunter round the Castle of Mey 10K course. (Found the hill Anna.) Delighted to have managed to run the whole distance with little aggravation to my knee; we must have looked a sight though as the whole family stepped out in style over the distance.
Are you seeing improvements; in speed, distance, breathing?
Maintaining speed and breathing must be good as I managed to shout instructions at the kids like 'watch out for the tractor' as we worked our way round the course.
Where are you walking/running; gym, beach, roads, forests?
One session in Achvarasdal Woods and one at the Castle of Mey - scenery is stunning and let's hope the weather is as kind on the day.
Are you training alone/with someone else/mixture? How does this affect your training?
Ran with Sophie during the week and then did the Dunnett style version of a day out on Sunday.
Any injuries?
My ongoing concern is over my right knee but have another date with Occupational Health Department at Dounreay to see if they can 'rebuild me'... Steve Austin look-out!! They have worked wonders to date!!
Are you feeling any benefits away from training as a result of the training; health, toning up, more energetic?
On Sunday, I ran 10K, cut the grass, washed the car and played some golf all in one day... fair to say my energy levels are improving somewhat!!
Are you doing any other forms of exercise; swimming, cycling, yoga, pilates?
I walked approximately 3.6K over two lunchtimes with work colleagues and played a round of golf. The golf was indifferent, although there are signs of improvement. The readjustment to my swing due to a change in my girth is taking some getting used to!!
Any other observations?
There is only three weeks to go. Ahhhhhhhhhhhh. However after my Sunday run, I feel that what seemed like a near impossible target is now achievable.
