Report 7 - Week beginning 16/02/09

Have you stuck to the training programme? If not any reasons why?

No. I only managed two sessions of 2 x 15 minute runs this week. Also, I changed the walking period to 2 minutes. There were two reasons for not completing 3 sessions, one being I was in Falkirk over the weekend with my twin daughters as they were competing in the Scottish Cross Country Championships and the second being my ankle injury has worsened. The highlight of my training week was running on the Scottish Cross Championship course the day after the event. That was brilliant!!

Have you done more or less than expected? Explain.

I did less than I would have liked but I need to take professional advice now on my ankle before I do some long term damage.

How did you feel during training this week? What were the highs and lows?

The high must be that my legs are stronger now and I don't feel as if I'm going to collapse at the end of the sessions. My low, well it has to be running from the start of the session in pain from this ankle injury.

Are you seeing improvements; in speed, distance, breathing?

Breathing and the distance I am covering continues to improve as the weeks goes on.

Where are you walking/running; gym, beach, roads, forests?

Did one session round Achvarasdal woods and the final session round Callander Park in Falkirk on Sunday morning. The weather was lovely and sunny!!

Are you training alone/with someone else/mixture? How does this affect your training?

Did both sessions with my twin daughters. They are great inspiration but what really gets me as how much they can talk the whole way through the training session. I manage a few words here and there when asked, I think just to prove I'm still living!!

Any injuries?

My left ankle is giving me considerable pain now but this is not going to phase me. I will seek appropriate advive and if a rest is required then so beit. But I will return!!!

Are you feeling any benefits away from training as a result of the training; health, toning up, more energetic?

I feel more energetic and am more enthusiastic about doing other activities.

Are you doing any other forms of exercise; swimming, cycling, yoga, pilates?

Nothing formal although I chased around the Scottish Championship Course cheering on my daughters. Emma had a really good race and finished in bronze medal position. Oonagh suffered from a severe 'stitch' early on in the race but finished the strong. It is really inspiration to watch elite athletes.

Any other observations?

I now move into week 8 and I'm looking to run 30 minutes continuously. This will be a big challenge. Depending on the advice I get re the ankle, I hope to be able to give this a try later in the week and maybe only do one session.
