Report 15 - Week beginning 19/04/10

Have you stuck to the training programme? If not any reasons why?

3 Runs this week.

Have you done more or less than expected? Explain.

A lot more than I expected to do in fact to be honest last Monday I had pretty much given up all hope of managing to do the run.

How did you feel during training this week? What were the highs and lows?

General fitness level had dropped a wee bit due to hardly being able to run very much at all in the last few weeks. Only highs now that I am back running and so far reasonably pain free.

Are you seeing improvements; in speed, distance, breathing?

Struggled a bit with the breathing but that was probably due to going too fast after doing so little.

Where are you walking/running; gym, beach, roads, forests?

On Tuesday I ran for 30mins on the treadmill and then on Thursday I ran in Halkirk for approx 3.5 miles. On Saturday Sandra and I ran on Dunnet beach for approx 3.6 miles this was to help her return or potential return from injury from her troublesome heel and we both managed reasonably ok.

Are you training alone/with someone else/mixture? How does this affect your training?

Twice on my own and once with Sandra.

Any injuries?

Fingers crossed - I am not going to mention that part of my leg that has caused me so much grief!

Are you feeling any benefits away from training as a result of the training; health, toning up, more energetic?

-

Are you doing any other forms of exercise; swimming, cycling, yoga, pilates?

2 gym sessions and 1 game of golf.

Any other observations?

Time to explain where the miracle or hopefully the miracle cure has come from.

After getting a cortisone injection in my knee and a weeks rest there was no improvement at all in fact it was worse and I could not run a mile without having to stop in agony, and I had more or less accepted defeat.

I made an appointment to see the Doctor last Wednesday but on Tuesday I bought a knee support and tried running on the treadmill and although it was not perfect it was very manageable and not much pain. The Doc told me on Wed that he thought there would not be much that could be done for me but he has given me a referral for a second opinion which I should get within a couple of weeks and he also told me if I could manage to run with a knee support then he felt I would not do any long term damage. So hopefully it's onwards and upwards from here and the 2 outdoor runs I did last week were pretty pain free so from the depths of despair I'm back.

I intend to try a 5 mile run tonight and then 3 midweek and if there are no set backs I have entered (something I did weeks ago when the training was going well) for the Edinburgh 10k this Sunday so fingers crossed!
