Introduction
My name is Iola Wilson and I am 33. I work occasional shifts as a Doctor at Caithness General but spend the majority of my time being mum to my 3 young children (aged 7, 4 and 2).
I have been running on and off since being a member of CAAC in my teens. I didn't do a lot of running in my 20's but four years ago I started running more regularly in an effort to lose weight. Over 6 months I lost a significant amount of weight, saw a huge improvement in my running and became seriously hooked! I have completed many 10k runs and two half marathons. My best 10k time is 47.41. I took part in the inaugural Mey 10k last year but was unwell on the day and disappointed with my time, which was just under 55 minutes.
My motivation for running the Mey 10k is first and foremost my love of running. However, I have had a number of coughs and colds over the past few months and was recently diagnosed with exercise-induced asthma. This has really hampered my training and left me feeling de-motivated. I hope that having a goal to work towards and a training plan to follow will push me back into action.
My current exercise programme has been variable due to illness but probably averages out at 3 runs a week, one of 5k on the treadmill, a 3.5 mile route and occasionally a 5 mile route around Wick.
My goals are to regain my confidence and fitness, lose some excess weight and complete the Mey 10k in under 50 minutes, which should take me some way towards running a sub-45 10k by the end of 2010.
