Report 11 - Week beginning 15/03/10
Oh dear..... not had a good two weeks really! This is going to be short report as there isn't much to report! I haven't run due to injury since my last long run before the kilomathon which I should have competed in last Sunday. After the last run my ankle swelled up quite spectacularly and would not go down in spite of ice, ibuprofen and compression for a week. I had to pull out of the Kilomathon - there was no way I could run 16 miles on it!
I am currently quite badly injured. I have damaged a tendon in my left ankle (not through running I might add...!) and my ankle is constantly swollen. I have seen the physio and she is not sure how long I will be unable to run for but it will be at least 6 weeks maybe longer........ It doesn't hurt to walk, though it aches a bit and I have full pain-free movement in my ankle. The ligament concerned is the peroneous longus - it is at the outside of your ankle between the ankle bone and the achillies tendon and attaches to your foot. The injury, although not helped by running is probably caused by wearing my safety boots on site at work - I am really bad at not wearing big protective socks with them and often wander about site in my boots and little ankle socks. The boots press on the tendon and damage it. Ice skaters are prone to this injury if they wear badly fitting boots.

So, I'm currently resting.....? I am at the physio again this morning and will update my progress. If I cannot run for 6 - 8 weeks I'm afraid that a 46 minute 10k at Mey is out of the question! However, I may be able to run it as a 'comeback' run. In the mean time I will be cycling and thought it might be a good thing to carry on blogging through my injury to encourage any injured would-be runners out there to show that you can come through injury and it is not the end of the world!! (Even though it is disappointing and frustrating and it makes you miserable ? )
While everyone else is sweating through speed sessions and hill sessions I will be mostly eating chocolate and drinking red wine....... Enjoy your training guys.......
