Report 10 - Week beginning 15/03/10

The X-ercise Files - Diary so far.....

Running this week started off bad on Tuesday, picked up a little on Thursday and finished well on Sunday.

Tuesdays run was just 2 miles. I managed to run it without stopping but it nigh on killed me to do it and I literally had nothing left at the end of it. Needless to say this left me feeling really bad and as though all my efforts over the weeks had been ruined due to one bout of illness the week before.

Sophie explained that my previous illness may still be affecting my body and therefore my running, so that made me feel a bit better.

Hubby came with me on that run to take some photos for the website of me running. Thankfully they were all out of focus as the Russian shot putter heading toward the camera was not a pretty sight. Lol.

Thursdays run was terrible. I managed 3 miles and I took my German Shepherd along for the company but I had to keep slowing to a walk due to pain in my left calf which I've not suffered from in ages. In total I walked about a quarter of that run. I'd love to be able to blame Atlas the dog but unlike the Great Dane Huntly he actually ran in a straight line and didn't attempt to pull me over once. Darn it!!!!

Sophie again made me feel better about the walking so I decided to stop beating myself up about it and just get on with the rest of the week.

I had promised myself a run on either Friday or Saturday but to be honest I think I kept putting myself off and looking for excuses not to do it cos I was worried I'd make a hash of it like the other two days.

So on Sunday I got up early and got dressed for a run before I could talk myself out of it. I did 3 miles without walking which included hills that went on forever while hubby took more photos of me running which again mostly turned out unusable - Phew! I did consider photo shopping my face onto the body of a running Elle McPherson but figured I wouldn't get away with it long term. So Russian shot putter it is!

Highs this week: That would have to be the fact that the photos were all blurred. Lol. Plus Sundays run, it felt good to do the 3 miles without walking and I feel as though I'm back on track now and ready to increase again next week. During each run I've been trying to increase my pace between whatever markers I can find along the road. I certainly feel that I've been able to increase the pace a bit just not able to sustain it yet.

Lows this week: Thursday run was especially disheartening mainly due to the calf pain as opposed the walking. Thankfully that calf pain only seemed to bother me on that one particular run and I didn't suffer with it at all on todays run.

I still enjoy running alone. I think I'd struggle now to run with a partner. I did take the dog out once just for company but I didn't enjoy it as much as going alone. I also tried listening to music again during running this week but I've found it distracts me and put me off.
