Report 4 - Week beginning 01/02/10
Have you stuck to the training programme? If not any reasons why?
No. I felt I could run for longer so decided to push myself a bit and run for longer than the programme suggested. On my Saturday outdoor run I did the first mile of it in 9minutes 40 and although I'm not really worried about timing myself at this point, I can use that time as a gauge for future progress.
Have you done more or less than expected? Explain.
Both. I managed more running than I thought I could but due to Tonsillitis I sacrificed 2 cycle training days so that I didn't miss any running sessions.
How did you feel during training this week? What were the highs and lows?
I felt very positive this week despite being ill because I had good running sessions even though 2 out of 3 runs were on the dreaded treadmill.
Highs were running for longer than I thought I could - a definite improvement from just a week ago.
Lows were having to miss some training due to illness.
Are you seeing improvements; in speed, distance, breathing?
Definite improvement in distance when running outside and speed when running on the treadmill.
Where are you walking/running; gym, beach, roads, forests?
Most running and my one cycle session this week has been in the gym due to the snow. We were actually snowed in for quite a while but I managed to get out this weekend for some road running.
Are you training alone/with someone else/mixture? How does this affect your training?
Gym work is always alone but I quite enjoy it that way. My one outdoor run was with my husband which definitely helps to keep me going.
Any injuries?
Nope.
Are you feeling any benefits away from training as a result of the training; health, toning up, more energetic?
Not this week as I've been ill so have generally felt quite tired anyway.
Are you doing any other forms of exercise; swimming, cycling, yoga, pilates?
My training at the moment is running 3 days a week followed by Pilates and Cycling 3 days a week followed by strength training but this week has been all topsy turvy due to being ill so I've concentrated mainly on not missing any running sessions.
Any other observations?
As much as I dislike treadmill work - mainly because it's sooooooo different to outdoor running and gives a false sense of ability as it's easier - the treadmill has actually been a godsend this week as I wouldn't have got much training in without it due to the weather.
